Partington Methodist Church Golden Anniversary
Updated: Oct 30, 2019
The Chapel is a special place for a variety of different reasons, but the vast majority are through the conversations of people as they remember. It is clear that the Chapel is the location for which many events of life have taken place. Whether those events were major or minor, they can be considered life-changing as they have stayed with people across their years.
The Chapel has a special place in my heart, not because of its architecture, but because the people who make up the Church are special and it’s humbling to see the way they use their gifts for the wider community. The words of Jesus to his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane before his arrest were significant, “watch and pray”. The people of the Chapel have taken those words to heart as they watch and pray over the community each week. I remember the first few prayer meetings which were finishing later and later, it was decided to start an hour earlier-however they continued to finish at the same time as before-they could not stop praying!
The thoughts of the Church have always been for the community of Partington as it seeks to watch and pray and as long as we stay true to the words of Jesus then we will be faithful to our calling and continue to be known as the Chapel where prayers are offered on for the community.
In turn, as prayers are acknowledged by the community, it is a place where thanksgivings are given to God. So, our prayers start by watching over the community in love and finish with thanksgiving for all that God continues to do. And I conclude by thanking God for the special people of the Chapel from days gone by, now and into the future.
Grace and peace Rev Richard
